Tree Stories - The Sap Sisters

Sap Sisters or Blood Brothers? Strange trees anyway.
Out on the mountain walkin' trail, this unusual tree branch naturally caught my attention.
I've pondered how this could have happened... two tree trunks grafting themselves together with a branch.   I've considered quite a few scenarios, but I'm still stumped.  This must be a freak of nature.
I wonder, do they have a symbiotic relationship (mutually beneficial),  or is one sipping sap from the other?
The branch definitely bridged the gap.
Perhaps the trees can stand in solidarity against the north-wind.
Magnanimous maples.

  2. Sybil,
    Very likely :)
However, wouldn't all the "rub, rubbing" tend to disrupt the melding process? Perhaps there was a long calm, or maybe maple melding happens quicker than I envision.
Additionally, wouldn't the tip of a tender twig, when encountering this abrasive situation, just turn away, or branch out?

  3. You are very wise Obi Wan.

You've got me watching out for odd tree images and I'm finding lots. I think I feel a blog post coming on.

  4. Sybil,
Great! I'll watch for your posts.
I love the northwoods...even "hooked" my kids on them up in Algonquin Park.
